PlanTools Quick Start

Get your first layout on screen in minutes

PlanTools runs on a computer inside your facility — there's nothing to install on your own device. Just open your web browser and go to the address your administrator gives you (for example http://plantools or http://192.168.1.50:3000). Sign in with the username and password your administrator created for you.

Your first layout

1

Find your plan

On the home screen, open your facility in the left panel: Building → Floor → Plan. Click a plan to see its layout options, or use + option to create a new one (e.g. "Concept A").

2

Open the editor

Click an option's name to open the drawing editor. Your facility footprint appears to scale. Use the mouse wheel to zoom and drag the empty canvas to pan; ⛶ Fit reframes the whole plan.

3

Check it out to edit

Click ✎ Edit (check out). This reserves the layout for you so two people don't overwrite each other. Others can still view and print it while you work.

4

Place equipment

Press and drag an item from the Equipment library on the left onto the floor. Click a placed piece to select it, then rotate, duplicate, or delete it with the toolbar that appears (or press R to rotate, Delete to remove).

5

Save your work

Click 💾 Save as you go — every save is kept as a version you can return to. When you're done, click ✓ Done (check in) to release the layout for others.

6

Print or export a PDF

Click 🖶 Print / PDF. Choose your sheet size (8.5×11, 11×17, or Arch D 24×36), and PlanTools lays the drawing out to true scale with a title block and an equipment schedule. Use your browser's "Save as PDF" to create a file.

Comparing ideas? In the editor, click ⬚ Branch from selection and drag a box over a work cell. PlanTools makes a focused copy of just that area that you can duplicate into several versions — perfect for laying out Concept A vs. B vs. C of a single cell, side by side.
Two ways your work is protected: everything is saved on your facility's PlanTools computer (not your personal device), and every save is versioned. Your administrator backs up the PlanTools data folder as part of normal IT routine.
